The Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics played in a classic on Tuesday night.

The Royals rallied from a 7-3 eighth-inning deficit with three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to force extra innings. After the A’s scored a run in the top of the 12th, the Royals tied things up on an error. Salvador Perez then hit the game-winning single, sending the Royals into the divisional round for a showdown with the Los Angeles Angels.

A fan, who has since been identified as Katie Castan, held up a sign that said “If we win, he’s buying me a puppy” with an arrow point to what we presumed was her boyfriend (and that has now been confirmed).

Castan explained how the sign and agreement came about.

It started earlier this summer,” Castan told Sports Illustrated. “My boyfriend and I were sitting on the couch at home, watching the Royals game. We were both grumpy after a long day of work, and I wanted to change the channel. So he told me, “If you can watch the games with me this season, if you understand what’s going on, if you can name the players, and if they make it to the playoffs, then I’ll get you a puppy.”

Don’t worry, Royals fans. The puppy’s name will be Royals’ related.

“The name is definitely going to be Royals-related,” Castan explained. “Right now, I’m thinking about Rally, but Finn is also in the running, and Perez. And Dyson is kind of a funny name, because it’s also a brand of vacuum, which dogs hate, haha. But right now Rally is my favorite.”
