The Kansas City Royals have a 1-0 lead against the Los Angeles Angels in the American League Divisional Series and Royals manager Ned Yost has decided to turn to a veteran to start a potential Game Four for KC:

So Yost will likely hand the ball to the 35-year old Jeremy Guthrie, who had a 4.13 ERA this season, his third with the Royals. He pitched 202.2 innings in his 32 starts this year. Jeremy Guthrie doesn’t strike out a lot of batters anymore and only has 124 Ks this year.
Yost is passing over left-hander Danny Duffy, who in 31 appearances (25 starts) had an ERA of 2.53 across 149.1 innings pitched. The 25-year old has been a revelation for the Royals this season, striking 113 batters.
Duffy suffered an injury that forced him to miss most of September, and the results had been mixed since his return – he threw six innings, scattering six hits and two walks without allowing a run against the Cleveland Indians on September 22 in Cleveland. However, the Chicago White Sox blasted Duffy in two innings just five days later. Duffy allowed five hits, including two home runs, and four earned runs total in a loss at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago. It’s possible Yost isn’t sure if Duffy will be fully healthy and would prefer to have Jeremy Guthrie at full-strength instead.
