Former Twin Doug Mientkiewicz could be their next manager
A favorite has emerged in the Minnesota Twins’s search for a manager to replace Ron Gardenhire and it is a longtime former Twins’ first baseman – but it’s not Paul Molitor:

Doug Mientkiewicz played his first seven seasons with the Twins, but is likely more famous for his time immediately after Minnesota: he was a member of the 2004 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox team and was included in a four-team trade in 2004, going from the Twins to Boston. The trade saw longtime Boston shortstop Nomar Garciaparra traded to the Chicago Cubs and the Montreal Expos send shortstop Orlando Cabrera to Boston. Doug Mientkiewicz caught the final out of the 2004 World Series and was involved in a legal battle for custody of the ball after the victory.
Minnesota is searching for their first new manager since 2002, when Gardenhire replaced the retiring Tom Kelly. Doug Mientkiewicz has been the manager for the Fort Myers Miracle, and at just 40 years old, would represent a bit of a younger managerial voice in Minnesota. He retired after the 2009 season. Molitor was a member of Gardenhire’s staff the past few years and the Hall of Famer played for the Twins from 1996 until 1998.
