Kansas City Royals fans are enjoying the team’s first postseason run in 29 years, and Eic Hosmer made sure that run didn’t slow down in Game 2 of the ALDS.
The Kansas City Royals took a 2-0 ALDS lead over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, thanks to an 11th-inning home run from Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer. Hosmer’s two-run blast helped seal Kansas City’s third consecutive extra innings playoff victory, something no other MLB team has ever done before Friday.

Hosmer’s shot off of Kevin Jepsen was just the latest dramatic comeback for Kansas City in a season where drama and comebacks are becoming common for the Royals. Rookie starter Yordano Ventura notched a quality start, but it was Hosmer’s late homer that finally sealed the win, and forced the Angels to the brink of elimination. So, naturally, this means only one thing: Hosmer must be soaked at all costs:
Outfielder Lorenzo Cain has the right idea here; Hosmer was just too hot, and he’s a key player for the Royals, so trying to cool the first baseman d0wn is absolutely the right idea. Cleanliness can also help avoid infection and disease, so maybe Cain wanted to make sure Hosmer was healthy enough for Game Three on Sunday in Kansas City.
Regardless, the Royals are making sure their first trip to the MLB playoffs since 1985 isn’t easily forgotten. The party continues in Game Three, with James Shields set to take the hill for KC.
