Detroit Lions’ receiver Calvin Johnson will have his injured ankle tested

For the last two weeks, the Detroit Lions have used Calvin Johnson as a decoy as he’s currently rehabbing from an ankle injury. This week, against the Buffalo Bills, their plan backfired as Calvin Johnson re-injured his ankle.

Ruled out following his exit, the Lions plan to run tests on Calvin Johnson to make sure the ankle injury in hopes that the issue isn’t a recurring theme throughout the season.

From the Detroit Free Press:

"Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he’s not sure how serious Calvin Johnson’s latest ankle injury is, but the Pro Bowl receiver is scheduled to undergo more testing Monday."

“I won’t be certain if it’s a long-term issue, but he did take a pretty good whack right there on the side of his leg,” said Lions head coach Jim Caldwell. “They looked at it, but they’ll evaluate him further, probably tomorrow and get a good look at him.”

At 3-2, the Lions currently stand atop the NFC North division and a semi-soft schedule could help them maintain their place. In the next five weeks Detroit takes on Minnesota, New Orleans, Atlanta, Miami and Arizona, and of those five teams only one has looked like an above average team (Arizona).

And by having a softs schedule, this could allow the Lions coaching staff to bring Calvin Johnson along slowly instead of rushing him back in hopes of remaining competitive in the NFC conference.

On the season, Calvin Johnson has gathered 348 yards and 2 touchdowns.
