With the Baltimore Ravens’ offense looking much improved and Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck off to an outstanding start, there were a lot of points expected. That, however, wasn’t the case. The Baltimore Ravens found some offense in the second half but overall it was a very poor day for that unit. The Indianapolis Colts were able to move the ball but were hampered by four turnovers (The Indianapolis Colts out-gained the Baltimore Ravens 422-287). In the end, they overcame those issues for a 20-13 victory.
Luck completed 32-of-49 passes for 312 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions while Joe Flacco completed 22-of-38 passes for 235 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.
Neither team could get anything going in the first quarter. Flacco fumbled on his own 22-yard line, allowing the Indianapolis Colts to recover. Adam Vinatieri’s 37-yard field goal was good.
On the first drive of the second quarter, the Baltimore Ravens moved the Indianapolis Colts’ 3-yard line. Facing fourth-and-one, the Baltimore Ravens decided to go for it. Flacco was sacked for an 11-yard loss, giving the Indianapolis Colts the ball at the 14-yard line. Luck drove the Indianapolis Colts in for a score but Reggie Wayne was called for offensive interference and Vinatieri settled for another field goal. The Baltimore Ravens managed one of their own just before the end of the half to make it 6-3.
Vontae Davis intercepted Joe Flacco’s pass on the opening drive of the second half. The Indianapolis Colts cashed in on a six-yard touchdown pass from Luck to Dwayne Allen. The Indianapolis Colts led 13-3 entering the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, Griff Whalen muffed a punt, setting the Baltimore Ravens up at the Indianapolis Colts’ 12, but they could only manage a field goal. On the ensuing drive, Luck took the Indianapolis Colts 80 yards, capped by a 13-yard run by Luck to push the lead to 20-6.
The Baltimore Ravens answered, taking advantage of an interception that was nullified by pass interference. They went 80 yards in four plays, highlighted by a 30-yard pass from Flacco to Jacoby Jones. Justin Forsett finished the drive off with an 11-yard touchdown run to make it 20-13.
The Indianapolis Colts drove down the field and looked to clinch the game but Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled, giving the Baltimore Ravens the ball back with just 1:49 to go on their own 11-yard. Steve Smith broke free late in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-three but Greg Toler was able to tip the ball away, securing an Indianapolis Colts’ victory.
The Indianapolis Colts will be in Houston to take on the Texans Thursday night while the Ravens will travel to Tampa Bay to battle the Buccaneers next Sunday.
