Although Calvin Johnson was on the field for the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon in their loss to the Buffalo Bills, you wouldn’t have known it.

The All-Pro wide receiver was held to just one catch while quarterback Matt Stafford looked elsewhere, mainly Golden Tate, in the heartbreaking loss. Johnson is currently dealing with an ankle injury which he tested out before the game and was deemed good enough to go.

However once the action kicked off it was clear Calvin Johnson was not completely healthy and was on the field to be nothing more than a decoy.

That’s not why the Detroit Lions pay Calvin Johnson his salary and they certainly don’t want the Pro Bowl wideout to be a week-to-week player for the rest of the season, so the team is reportedly ‘strongly’ considering sitting Calvin Johnson for their Week 6 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The Detroit Lions thought about having Johnson miss Sunday’s tilt though the wide receiver apparently wiggled his way into the lineup though probably shouldn’t have. Now it seems rather obvious that the Detroit Lions will need to rest Calvin Johnson if they want him to be healthy again this season and there isn’t a better time to do so than against the Minnesota Vikings who looked woeful against the Green Bay Packers in Week 5.

If Johnson is to miss time, Golden Tate will fill his role with Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross stepping in as well.

It’s not known how long the Lions are open to resting Calvin Johnson, though currently it’s believed the wideout would only miss one game.
