Although it was just preseason, Andrew Wiggins’ NBA debut with the Minnesota Timberwolves was nothing short of spectacular as he finished the evening with 18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and a steal.

More from Minnesota Timberwolves

Yes, it was a meaningless game in the standings and yes, it was against a short handed Indiana Pacers team. But still, from an offensive standpoint, there was little to be unhappy about if you’re a Minnesota Timberwolves fan.

Hell, there wasn’t much to be unhappy about if you’re a Minnesota Timberwolves player, like Kevin Martin who says Andrew Wiggins possesses Hall of Fame potential.

“I think Wiggins is filled with Hall of Fame potential,” Martin said. “That’s why he’s been hyped up since he was 16 years old. Now he’s going to be in a situation to put all those tools together.”

Wiggins, for whatever reason, has been a bit of a polarizing figure since being drafted with the No. 1 pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Part of that can likely be attributed to the fact that he was essentially placed on the trade block before he was ever selected by the Cavs, then put through a roller coaster of scenarios before Cleveland eventually traded him for Kevin Love.

Some close to the Cavaliers organization seemed to cast a shadow of doubt on Andrew Wiggins’ ability and desire (or lack of) to ever grow into an alpha-dog player, though at least for a night he seemed to play the part quite well.

Granted there will be high’s and low’s for Andrew Wiggins as there is for any rookie, though he looked very much like a number one pick on Tuesday night, though Kevin Martin’s Hall of Fame suggestion might be jumping the gun just a bit.
