Green suffered an injury to his right big toe and had to be carted off the Bengals’ practice field on Wednesday. Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com is reporting that Green could miss multiple weeks of action, depending on the results of an MRI.
"Green re-aggravated his big toe in warmups and left the field in the passenger seat of a golf cart visibly frustrated.Pending the MRI results, the Bengals could be faced with a myriad of options that may include shutting him down for a few weeks."
The Bengals would be in major trouble without Green. The team is already low on pass-catchers with receiver Marvin Jones and tight end Tyler Eifert currently injured, as Hobson notes.
If Green misses times, one would expect the team to rely significantly on its ground game to remain an effective offense. However, Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson suggested that he wouldn’t alter his gameplan regardless of Green’s status for the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
"“I never do a game plan based on one guy,” Jackson said after practice. “We have more than one guy. We’re not going to crash our game plan, we’re just going to adapt. As a coordinator you have to adapt. That’s the way it goes. You never know what might happen. When we started the Atlanta game I thought he was playing. We’ve been through this. We’re not going to worry about it.”"
The Bengals drafted Green with the No. 4 pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has caught 17 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns this season.
