The Cincinnati Bengals suffered an enormous scare on Wednesday when star receiver A.J. Green needed to be carted off the practice field after reportedly injuring his right big toe.

While having to be carted off is never a good sign, it appears there is a real possibility that Green suits up when the Bengals take on the Carolina Panthers Sunday.

Both offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and Bengals running back Giovani Bernard spoke optimistically about Green’s status for Week 6.

This certainly doesn’t mean Green is a lock to play and coach Marvin Lewis’ comments on Green playing certainly don’t inspire confidence about the matter. But it’s a good sign.

The Bengals could really use Green on Sunday. Not only is he by far the team’s top receiver and one of the league’s very best, the Bengals’ receiving core as a whole isn’t very healthy, with Marvin Jones still out.

Green has 17 catches for 314 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Cincinnati drafted Green with the No. 4 pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. The wideout was named to the pro bowl in each of his first three NFL seasons.
