Kansas City Royals will try to re-sign James Shields
By Bryan Rose
After James Shields was knocked around by the Oakland A’s in the American League Wild Card game in late September, it was thought the Kansas City Royals ace had likely thrown his last pitch for the franchise.

Of course Shields’ departure was quickly followed by an epic comeback that not only launched the Royals into the next round but now has them riding momentum into the American League Championship Series. That may have given new life to the idea of James Shields returning to the Royals next season as it’s said the team will attempt to re-sign the pitcher, something that was questionable at best before.
"The Kansas City Royals were originally believed to have a shot to keep Shields only if they went far in the playoffs, and sources say the team has decided by now, after reaching the ALCS, that they will make that effort.…And now with their amazing postseason run, which will bolster their revenues big-time — they have decided they will indeed try to keep him with a new multi-year deal."
The main problem the Kansas City Royals were facing in regards to keeping James Shields was namely money as he’s set to be one of the most desired pitchers on the free agent market. There’s simply no way the Royals can afford to get in a bidding war with some of the more deep pocketed teams around Major League Baseball, so they’re going to need to sell James Shields on the prospect of playing for a wonderful fan base on a winning franchise.
That’s a pretty nice start though they’re still going to have to break the bank to keep their ace, but after Kansas City’s best season in nearly three decades, you almost think they’ll have to make such an effort.
