Earlier today it was reported that Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant suffered a serious foot fracture which will likely force him to go under the knife.

More from Kevin Durant

While surgery hasn’t been assured as of yet both the Thunder and Durant are being very cautious regarding the foot injury considering how difficult they can be to recover from and how seriously they can impact your career. That’s something former NBA center Yao Ming is aware of as he suffered the same foot injury as Durant which essentially ended Ming’s career prematurely.

Ming isn’t the only player we’ve seen struggle with foot injuries in recent memory as Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets has also dealt with foot fractures though Kevin Durant has far less weight on his feet than big men which is a major plus for Durant’s progress and recovery.

Still there aren’t many injuries more damaging for basketball players outside of feet which is why extreme cautious is being exercised with the reigning NBA MVP.

Both Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder will consult with medical professionals before deciding upon potential surgery and the initial return time is around 6 to 8 weeks after suffering the injury. That however is a best case scenario and some are speculating it may be more like 10 weeks before Kevin Durant is able to get back onto an NBA court.

Reggie Jackson is expected to take over Durant’s spot in the lineup though he too is currently dealing with an injury but should be fine for the regular season.
