Brandon Spikes: ‘I let the city down’ in Buffalo Bills loss to New England Patriots
By Cory Buck
The Buffalo Bills defense played its worst game of the season in a critical Week 6 home game against division rival New England Patriots. The vocal leader of this team’s anticipated matchup with the Patriots had been former-Patriot Brandon Spikes, who in the offseason proclaimed the Bills would ‘shock the world‘.

Unfortunately a defense that had been stalwart in its first five games was anything but in its sixth. Combine that with multiple gaffes and protection issues on offense, and you have another stinging loss to the Patriots for the Bills. Spikes was among the first to accept blame for the loss, as tweeted by ESPN’s Mike Rodak among others.
In fairness, the Bills rushing defense, spearheaded by Spikes, was hardly the issue. The team’s secondary failed to hold up its end of the bargain, constantly giving up big completions to Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman, as well as complementary receiver Brandon LaFell, who notched two receiving touchdowns. There was also that pesky issue of the offense giving the Patriots 13 points off of turnovers in the first half alone.
Fortunately there’s still time for the Bills to ‘shock the world’ as they have one of the NFL’s easiest schedules going forward. At 3-3, the season is still plenty young for something to happen. If Spikes and the Bills can learn from their mistakes against New England, they can be a better team for it. And if nothing else, we can all take comfort in knowing that Brandon Spikes was feeling much better come breakfast time this morning.
