With Kevin Love as their franchise anchor, the Minnesota Timberwolves struggled to make the postseason. Now without Love, might the T’Wolves be in contention for a playoff birth?

It may not be the most logical stance considering how talented of a player Kevin Love is, but now with the Minnesota Timberwolves focused on a team concept and more depth many believe the T’Wolves are on the right path.

In fact some believe their offseason overhaul may have them in contention for a playoff birth this season as Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders notes.

Asked by a fan in his weekly chat about the Minnesota Timberwolves’ playoff chances, Kyler notes them to be his darkhorse.

"They have a lot to work with, but a lot of questions. If Pek can get back to that guy he was when Love was out, that’s huge. Kevin Martin gets buckets. The young guys could swing things in an interesting way and Rubio could be the guy that puts it all together. I am not betting the house on Minney by any leap, but that’s my darkhorse team."

The NBA’s Western Conference is extremely deep and it would seem that a 50-win season would be needed to make the postseason. Given that it would take a bit of a perfect storm for the T’Wolves to find themselves in contention for a birth, let alone clinching one.

That said there’s no denying the talent on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ roster, it’s simply a question if the team can mesh and the young talent like Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett can play at a high level. It’s not very often you get two consecutive No. 1 picks on the same roster, but that’s currently the situation for the T’Wolves who understandably are likely drooling at the potential.
