On Monday morning the Buffalo Bills, apparently washing their hands of wide receiver Mike Williams, allowed the veteran to seek out potential trade partners after he expressed frustration in his role.

Fast forward to Tuesday where rumors suggested the New York Giants could be interested in a trade for Williams given franchise wide receiver Victor Cruz suffered a season ending injury during Sunday Night Football.

Adding Williams to a depleted Giants wide receiver core seemed logical on the surface, though with Mike Williams due over $5 million dollars next season it would be a lofty price to pay for a declining player. Understandably, the New York Giants have decided against engaging in such a deal.

"The Giants are not interested in giving up a draft pick and paying Williams a hefty salary, a person familiar with the situation told NJ.com. Williams is making over $1 million this year and guaranteed more than $5 million in 2015."

As if losing Victor Cruz wasn’t painful enough, the New York Giants now sit behind the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys who hold 5-1 records. To rub salt in the wound, they now face a schedule which consists of playing against the aforementioned Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys in their next five consecutive games. At 3-3 and that daunting schedule on the horizon, few will begrudge the New York Giants from mortgaging some of their future to acquire a solid though unspectacular wide receiver like Mike Williams.

Ruben Randle is expected to take over lead duties for the Giants in the absence of Victor Cruz will rookie Odell Beckham Jr. will move into the secondary role.
