It’s been said that ‘three times is a charm’. But what about a fourth time? That’s what Baltimore Ravens safety Will Hill is currently experiencing as he’s in the process of concluding his third NFL suspension and has been added to the 53-man roster.
Undrafted out of Florida, Hill has struggled to make an impact at the NFL level after a very solid collegiate career, much of that due to his inability to stay on the field. No, it hasn’t been injury that has hampered Hill but rather his inability to follow the NFL’s policy on substances.
Signed by the New York Giants in 2012, Will Hill was suspended four-games due to performance-enhancing drug use. He then missed the first four games of the 2013 season due to another substance abuse suspension before getting suspended a third time, this time for six games for yet again failing to comply with the league’s substance-abuse policy.
But one man’s trash is another man’s treasure and the Baltimore Ravens so an opportunity with Will Hill after he was released by the New York Giants and signed the veteran to a contract.
It’s a low-risk, high-reward situation for the Ravens as they can simply wash their hands of Hill if he continues to struggle off the field. On the field however Will Hill looked very good for the Giants last season and the Ravens can use some help in their secondary with Aaron Ross out for the entire season.
Hill will likely be ease back into action though is expected to see the field in Baltimore’s Week 7 tilt against the Atlanta Falcons. Expect mostly special teams play with a few opportunities in some expansive defensive back sets come Sunday afternoon.
