When it comes to making contact with an NFL referee, you simply can’t do it. That’s something Indianapolis Colts linebacker Erik Walden is learning the hard way as the veteran was ejected from his game against the Cincinnati Bengals today.
After a skirmish with Bengals tight end Jermaine Gresham, Walden had to be separated by the NFL official. For whatever reason though, possibly still heated, Walden put his arm on the referee in a midly aggravated fashion which was enough to draw the flag.
Gresham, who was on the other side of the referee immediately seemed to know what the penalty flag was for as he began to jump up and down in excitement.
It was clear that Erik Walden touched the referee in live action and was in the wrong. Was it enough to be worthy of an ejection? Some may argue that it wasn’t, though a rule is a rule and Walden has to be smarter.
Clearly losing his head, it was a dumb mistake for the former first-round draft pick who will now miss the remainder of the Indianapolis Colts’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
