Through seven NFL seasons, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had missed a grant total of five games. Needless to say, the Pro Bowl talent was considered to be somewhat of an iron man as not only did he miss very few games, but he also played through nagging injuries and performed extremely well.
However even Superman has his kryptonite and for Calvin Johnson, that appears to be his injured ankle as he missed practice yet again putting his status in doubt for Week 8.
Ankle injuries are of course very nasty, especially for a player like Johnson who continually uses such to plant. The team has attempted to give him rest but so far it hasn’t been enough as Calvin Johnson continues to sit out.
While Calvin Johnson has played in five games this season, he was only targeted a combined three times in his last two games and was used more as a decoy. That may have proven to be a poor decision as its possible playing may have resulted in Johnson’s ankle injury growing worse as he continues to miss time.
If there is a sliver lining, despite missing practice, Calvin Johnson did recently begin running so it appears a potential return is on the horizon though it may not be for a few more weeks at this pace.
The most likely scenario will be Calvin Johnson missing Week 8 against the Atlanta Falcons (in London) and then having Detroit’s bye week as more time to recover before a potential Week 10 return.
