Although Calvin Johnson went through a mild practice on Wednesday, he didn’t participate fully and his status remained in doubt for the Detroit Lions contest against the Atlanta Falcons in London this Sunday.
Thankfully though it appears as if Johnson had some significant progress overnight as he reportedly increased his activity at practice and while the team isn’t ready to confirm he’ll play in their Week 8 tilt, it does appear as if the Pro Bowl talent is getting very close to a return.
With the Detroit Lions having an upcoming bye week, it may be in the best interest of both Calvin Johnson and the team to take the week off allowing him two full weeks of recovery time. What they play to do though still appears to be up in the air.
As for his teammate, running back Reggie Bush, the prognosis wasn’t as good as Bush remained out of practice and playing in Sunday’s tilt seems rather unlikely.
Currently dealing with an ankle injury like Calvin Johnson, Bush is clearly further behind in his recovery and will likely need the two-week window to get healthy before he’s to return to the field. The Detroit Lions have yet to officially rule him out for Sunday’s game but did downgrade his status.
Assuming Bush can’t see the field, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick will handle the running back duties. As for Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate will continue to serve as his replacement if he’s unable to suit up for the early morning game across the pond.
