Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith is expected to play in Week 9 despite a strained shoulder.

After suffering what was called a ‘strained throwing shoulder’ in the Kansas City Chiefs Week 8 victory there was some concern the quarterback could miss his upcoming tilt against the New York Jets.

Those fears have been squashed though as Smith has returned to practice and looks to be on track to start in the rather tough matchup.

Smith was joined by safety Eric Berry who also returned to practice on Wednesday.

The New York Jets have a nasty run defense despite seven consecutive losses so it’s likely Alex Smith will be called on a bit more than usual during the Week 9 matchup. No, he won’t throw forty attempts but it’s possible Andy Reid may attempt to have Smith dump a few additional passes over the middle or swing a few Jammal Charles to combat the strong front seven of the Jets.

For what it’s worth it was said Alex Smith actually suffered the injury in the first half of last Sunday’s victory but was able to play through the pain. That will likely be more of the case against the Jets who have not won a game since their Week 1 victory.

Barring an unforeseen setback to Alex Smith’s throwing shoulder, expect the signal caller to suit up for the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend in a tasty matchup.

Smith, everybody’s favorite ‘game manager’ has thrown for 9 touchdowns and has a very impressive 93.1 quarterback rating through seven games this season.
