Back comes one Bengals Pro Bowler, while another heads out, as Cincinnati will lose the services of LB Vontaze Burfict for at least two weeks after he had his knee scoped early Wednesday morning.
Burfict has played in just five games this season after coming off a season that saw him lead the Bengals with 171 tackles. He has 29 tackles and a forced fumble thus far.
The news of Burfict’s loss comes after a more optimistic view earlier in the week, when the Bengals were expecting both him and DT Domata Peko back after both were lost in the first quarter of last week’s 27-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Burfict had also been knocked out of the Bengals’ 27-0 loss to the Indianapolis Colts when he sustained a cervical strain when he hit Andrew Luck with his helmet.
With Burfict out, the Bengals will turn to Vincent Rey to start this Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Rey has played in all seven games this season, recording 38 total tackles. The fifth-year pro from Duke recorded a career-high 16 tackles in the loss to the Colts two weeks ago.
While Burfict is out, the Bengals got a huge jolt with the return of Pro Bowl WR A.J. Green on Wednesday. Green looked sharp in practice and said he does not expect to be under a snap count when he comes back to the lineup on Sunday.
