So what does this mean exactly? Well, for starters it re-compete’s Indy’s offensive proliferation. Wayne has been part of a receiving core that has included the likes of TY Hilton, Hakeem Nicks, and Dwayne Allen among others. It has lead to Andrew Luck’s breakout season; one which has his name being thrown around MVP discussion. His 2,731 yards passing are tops in the league and his 22 TD passes tie Peyton Manning for first in that distinction as well. All the while, he is completing 64.8 percent of his throws to the tune of a 99.2 passer rating.
On the defensive side, Davis’s return is huge for the Colts’ pass defense. Despite their lack of dominant pass rushers, the presence of Davis and Greg Toler give the team tighter man coverage, thus resulting in a higher amount of QB pressures. They will need all the help it can get, as Indianapolis will be without DL Arthur Jones, FS LaRon Landry, and OLBs Erik Walden and Josh McNary.
