Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant attempted to recruit Pau Gasol during NBA free agency though says he was more interested in city entertainment like orchestras and plays.

After Pau Gasol decided he was going to leave the Los Angeles Lakers and become a free agent this past offseason, multiple teams showed interested in the big man.

One such team were the Oklahoma City Thunder who thought the veteran would make for a good addition.

That lead to OKC Thunder star Kevin Durant attempting to recruit the Spaniard though it appears their interests simply didn’t mesh. Durant, speaking on a preview clip to his HBO special was seen speaking about Gasol (who eventually signed with the Chicago Bulls) though stated the big man was more interested in the city an opposed to the team.

That included things like orchestras and plays according to Durant, via Sam Amick.

While I’m not huge on the Oklahoma City play scene I do know that Chicago has one of the best in the country along with the famed Chicago orchestra, so it seems as if the Windy City proved to be a good choice on multiple accounts.

We often hear about many things that will recruit a player to a franchise. Perhaps its the locale or maybe another high level player on the roster. This however may be a first. Perhaps NBA teams may want to start investing in local arts education so they can attract one of the premier free agents down the road.

Ironically enough Pau Gasol’s start to the season has went well in Chicago while Kevin Durant’s season has yet to begin thanks to a broken foot in training camp.
