During Sunday’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, linebacker Terrell Suggs unleashed what many believed to be a cheap shot from behind directed at Pittsburgh running back LeGarrette Blount.
The hit resulted in the Baltimore Ravens defender being flagged for unnecessary roughness while Blount called Suggs dirty in a media session after the game.
It’s far from the first time an opponent has called out Terrell Suggs’ questionable tactics though the Pro Bowl linebacker says he wasn’t attempting to hurt LeGarrette Blount nor is he a dirty player.
“He was running, he was still up and he was moving the pile,” Suggs said. “I assessed the play, and that was the only way I could get him down without him gaining more yards. I wasn’t trying to get him hurt. I was just trying to get the big guy down.”
LeGarrette Blount understandably wasn’t buying the remarks from Suggs.
“I don’t know what [Suggs] was doing,” Blount said. “I don’t know what he was thinking. He’s known to be a dirty player. As long as he does that he’s going to continue to have people come after him and do whatever we did to get in his head.”
It’s possible Terrell Suggs wasn’t actually attempting a dirty play on Blount though given his reputation it’s not an argument he’s going to win. If Suggs wasn’t known around the NFL for his questionable play he’d probably get a pass though with the league watching him, it’s very possible a fine will be coming his way.
Blount and the Pittsburgh Steelers had the final laugh though as they handed the Baltimore Ravens a 43-23 loss.
