For five seasons, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Hakeem Nicks played a prominent role on the New York Giants where he was a favorite target of quarterback Eli Manning. His role has diminished with the Colts though the wideout was ready to make a big impact on Monday night when he returned to his former stomping grounds.
Sadly he wasn’t able to put up the type of game he had hoped as he amassed just 44 yards on three receptions. Of course, if you ask Nicks (as did local media) about his performance, the wide receiver couldn’t help but pat himself on the back despite a rather average game.
Questioned by a reporter in regards to his ability and if he ‘still has it’, Hakeem Nicks gave the following response: “Definitely. You can do that playing within the scheme. Everybody sees the game film, so I think it will speak for itself.”
Perhaps Hakeem Nicks was suggesting that he was so good, in fact, that the New York Giants had to game plan around him and he still was able to put up those 44 yards. Of course, that wasn’t the plan at all as the New York Giants’ secondary was shredded throughout the contest by Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck with Hakeem Nicks being nothing more than a complimentary piece.
To make the performance even worse, Nicks was targeted once in the end zone though ended up dropping the pass. Alas, it seems as if the wide receiver still thinks he had a great game against his former team and it doesn’t appear he’s wiling to admit otherwise.
Must be nice to be that out of touch, though he’s far from the only professional athlete who thinks they’re better than they actually are.
