Once the 2015-16 NBA season comes to a conclusion, Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant will have the opportunity to become a free agent (assuming he doesn’t sign a contract extension before that time).
Teams across the league have already put themselves in financial position to afford Durant who could very possibly sign the most lucrative deal in NBA history. That has to be on the mind of the reigning NBA MVP, correct? Not according to Kevin Durant himself who suggests the thought really hasn’t crossed his mind.
Doing promotional work for his upcoming HBO special, Durant was asked by a reporter about his pending free agent plans and if he’s consider playing for the Washington Wizards.
“I really haven’t thought about that, to be honest. I hear it a lot. But I think I can make an impact on the community I grew up from anywhere. So I think I’m doing a good job of that in Oklahoma. My friends, my family, the kids in my neighborhood, are seeing that. I’m inspiring them from Oklahoma City. I really haven’t thought about it. I love where I am.”
Durant went on to say that he knows that’s a rather ‘cliche’ answer but suggested it was the honest truth.
Of course, Kevin Durant suggesting anything otherwise would not only be a complete public relations disaster for the forward but would also be considered tampering. Given that nobody is going to get a straight answer from Durant regarding his future plans.
For now he’ll play out the remainder of his deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder and will continue to focus on his NBA title aspirations for the next two seasons.
