While soccer may not come across as physical as American football or rugby, anybody who has played the sport before will attest otherwise. Not only is the game physically draining but there are plenty of injuries just waiting to take place.
Most of those usually occur towards the bottom half of your body though for one unsuspecting Dutch player, that didn’t hold true today.
Attempting a clear out, Mexico’s Chicharito elevated his leg in effort to kick the ball away from the box. That’s where things got messy as the Dutch player, wanting to keep the pressure on, launched his head toward Chicharito’s swinging leg and the end result was a cleat to the face.
It would have been bad enough if Mexico’s Chicarito simply kicked him in a normal fashion though given the Dutch player’s momentum was going towards the swinging leg, it made an already painful situation look even worse.
The worst part of it all may have been the fact that Chicarito’s foot was flush with the face of the Dutch player which allowed for the spiked end of his cleats to make flush contact with the face. Understandably the Dutch player took a step back before making his way to the ground.
I on the other hand would have been curled up in the fetal position asking the team doctor to simply dig a hole and bury me on the pitch.
Ironically that’s how some players tend to act after the smallest of hits in effort to flop and draw a call, but that’s none of my business. Back to sipping on my tea. Or something.
