For years it has been established that the NBA‘s most marketable player was a two man race between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Well, it might be time to add some additional names to the conversation.
Kevin Durant won the league MVP award for the first time last season, dethroning 4 time winner LeBron James. That is one name right there. Next you have Blake Griffin, whom has taken the commercial world by storm; and in many eyes he may truly be the most marketable player in the game today. However, one man that should not be overlooked is James Harden.
Harden’s acting prowess has been showcased in previous television spots, most notably in the following commercial from Foot Locker.
Pretty good. However, the real “Harden Soul” shows in this latest spot for ESPN’s flagship program “SportsCenter.”
Here we really see the comedic timing of Harden take off. There is a certain authority behind the man’s voice when he tells you everything is under control. In the commercial, things appear to actually be spiraling out of hand. Harden, however, remains stoic as ever. He may only have one emotional state (unnerving calmness), but it provides for entertainment when juxtaposed with utter chaos. That is the brilliance of this advertisement.
