Might the Los Angeles Lakers use Steve Nash to lure big name free agents to Southern California including Kevin Durant?

More from Kevin Durant

Although Steve Nash is in the final year of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers and unlikely to play for the franchise again, there is a growing belief the two-time NBA MVP could be sticking around Hollywood.

The Lakers have already reportedly approached Nash about essentially acting as another assistant coach this season with hopes of helping their young point guards grow and there’s an assumption the team may offer to keep around past this year in a similar capacity.

Perhaps that could be in effort to recruit a big name free agent like Kevin Durant? It sounds silly on the surface though Nash and Durant are very close friends and Kevin Ding hints Steve Nash’s influence and name could bring key free agents to the Lakers if he’s to remain with the franchise.

"And as disliked as Nash might be by so many Lakers fans, he is revered by a lot of players around the league, some of whom grew up watching him. This is the kind of guy who could be awfully useful one day in the future making a phone call on the Lakers’ behalf to a much-coveted free agent."

Ding went on to focus on the relationship between Nash and Kevin Durant and how the two spent the offseason working out together at the Los Angeles Lakers practice facility.

Understandably there’s a lot of speculation in such and it seems iffy to believe Durant, who seems to enjoy being a low-key superstar, would like the bright lights of Southern California. Still, it’s an interesting tactic if it’s actually something the Los Angeles Lakers do intend to deploy when the time comes.
