It certainly wasn’t the smartest choice of words and now Lewis has apologized.

“I apologize to Johnny and the Browns and all the fans in Cleveland,” Lewis said. “It was just a poor remark. I really didn’t mean anything by it.”

The full context of Lewis’ remarks do show that he wasn’t being malicious. He was just attempting to poke fun at Johnny Manziel’s lack of ideal size to play NFL quarterback and he made a bad choice in words.

“You’ll get a little bit more movement if Manziel’s the quarterback, the thing that they did against Buffalo. But other than that, no, that doesn’t impact you at all. You gotta go defend the offense. You don’t defend the player,” Lewis said in the interview. “Particularly a midget.”

When you add comments like that to the end of a remark, sometimes it can bring laughter to the room. But you have to use the right punchline. Finishing off with a comment that can be deemed insensitive is really never the way to go.
