One of the more underrated and overlooked moves commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL made was creating division heavy matchups late in the season. Ensuring that Week 17 showcased a slate of division-only matchups across the entire league promised more drama during the sometimes previously lackluster last week of the season.
Over the past several years this move has created many winner take all division championship games. Today was no different as we saw the Carolina Panthers and the Green Bay Packers win their respective divisions in that type of game. Tonight is showcasing the last of the division championship games as the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals are fighting for the AFC North crown, and the intensity couldn’t be at a higher level.
Not only are the two division foes jawing at one another, but hits are starting to fly from every angle as Steelers tight end Heath Miller found out.
The Steelers currently hold a 20-10 lead over the Bengals at halftime. Antonio Brown and Giovani Bernard have already made their presence felt, while Andy Dalton’s two early interceptions has cost his team big.
The difference between hosting a game in the tournament or traveling on the road is immense, and tonight’s result will loom large in the entire scheme of things.
