There wasn’t a more popular player coming into the 2014 NFL Draft than Johnny Manziel, though despite his well known name, the former Texas A&M quarterback left talent evaluators with a significant amount of questions.
That lead to “Johnny Football” slipping to the bottom of the first round where the Cleveland Browns drafted the signal caller with the 22nd overall pick.
Many expected to see the electric quarterback on the field when the season opened, but Johnny Manziel began the year on the bench and that’s where he stayed until the final few weeks of the year. Still, that didn’t hurt his jersey sales according to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Jersey Report which listed Manziel as the top overall Cleveland Browns seller and the fourth best selling jersey in the NFL.
Right after Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns, his jersey sales were through the roof and rivaled the most elite names in the league. However as he sat on the bench, those numbers dipped a bit though overall his figures were still very impressive, especially for a rookie. It’s quite rare to see a rookie have such high sales, especially from a player who wasn’t drafted with the first overall pick.
Outside of the Cleveland area, Johnny Manziel’s jersey also sold well in Texas where many of his fans from A&M proudly represented their favorite player.
As for other players on the Cleveland Browns, defensive back Joe Haden, fellow quarterback Brian Hoyer, safety Donte Whitner and offensive lineman Joe Thomas all had hot selling jerseys though none came close to rivaling Johnny Manziel who was among the NFL leaders alongside Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck.
