Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Adam “Pac-Man” Jones ordered to pay $12.4 million to victims of shootings at a Las Vegas strip club.

The 2007 shooting incident at a Las Vegas strip club involving NFL defensive back Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, then with the Tennessee Titans, seems like so long ago. Jones has been quietly enjoying an NFL career with the Bengals and staying out of trouble for the most part, but the repercussions of that incident have come back up.

Jones remains liable for $12.4 million in damages to victims of the shooting incident after the Nevada Supreme Court upheld a prior ruling, according to a report from the Associated Press.

"The justices upheld a trial judge’s decision to remove the NFL from the case, and rejected Jones’ contention that damage awards for Urbanski and co-worker Aaron Cudworth didn’t legally correspond to findings of liability."

It is important to note that Jones wasn’t the shooter in the incident, but he was alleged to be the instigator by Las Vegas police. Jones attempted to “make it rain” at the strip club and threw handfuls of cash towards dancers inside.

Tommy Urbanski and Aaron Cudworth were wounded outside the club in the aftermath of the cash throwing incident. One of them was left paralyzed as a result.

It is a rather stiff penalty, but one that is entirely deserved and hopefully serves as a lesson towards young athletes. Something as innocent as throwing away your money, which is stupid in its own right, can lead to other unintended consequences.

It is tragic that a doorman was paralyzed in the incident and money certainly won’t ease his pain, but hopefully it can help him cover the costs of his care.
