Ohio State favored to repeat as National Champions in 2015 early betting odds

According to Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman, the odds for teams to appear in next year’s College Football Playoff National Championship game have been released, courtesy of Bovada.

This past season of NCAA football was historic. Not only did we have a legitimate undisputed national champion, the world paid witness to the first ever FBS College Football Playoff. Four teams, Alabama, Oregon, Florida State, and Ohio State played for the national title, and despite a little bit of controversy surrounding the fourth spot in the pool, many feel as though the selection committee got it right. The TV ratings certainly would appear to echo that sentiment. The game drew the highest recorded rating in cable television history, with an 18.5 market share.

So after Monday night, there were many questions to ponder. Following OSU’s 42-20 victory over Oregon, what is the future like for reigning Heisman Trophy Award winner Marcus Mariota? How about third-string Buckeyes quarterback Cardale Jones? Is Urban Meyer headed to the NFL? Some of these questions appear to be unanswered, and probably will remain so for a couple more days, as the deadline to declare for the 2015 NFL Draft is on Thursday. However, Meyer is, by his own admission, staying put in Columbus.

As for next year’s title game, though, it is never too early to start predicting who will be there.

That is where the fine folks at Bovada step in. According to Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman, the company released their odds for which teams are most likely to reach the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship game. They are available for viewing below.

As expected, Ohio State is favored to repeat, then followed by TCU, and Alabama in third. What is interesting to note, though, is how balanced the odds seem to be at the top. There is an excellent mix of Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, and Pac-12 schools represented. It is certainly a nice change of pace from the recently perennially stacked SEC preseason odds that the college football viewing world has become accustomed to.

Two late season match-ups would appear to really impact the title picture heading into next year’s playoff; Ohio State vs. Michigan State, and the Iron Bowl (Alabama vs. Auburn). That is not terribly surprising as both had a significant effect on the playoff picture in 2015.
