Leah “Strong” Still is the daughter of Devon Still, a defensive tackle with the Cincinnati Bengals. Leah was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, which is a rare form of pediatric cancer. Leah is preparing to undergo another round of chemotherapy and continue to fight cancer with her dad Devon Still by her side. It is hoped that this round of chemotherapy will kill enough of the cancer that Leah can begin to undergo stem cell therapy.
Devon said that he began to get a lot of questions from other parents about what they do to manage their battle with cancer. After talking with Leah about those questions, it led to writing a book that could help other families know how they have been able to deal with and fight through all the battles and long stays in the hospital.
Devon had this to say:
"“I talked to my daughter and asked her if she wanted to do a children’s book to help kids who are fighting pediatric cancer now and kids who will be diagnosed in the future to help them with the transition from normal life to being in the hospital all the time,” Still said, via USA Today. “That book was written by her. I just had an outline of questions I wanted to ask her. Whatever answers she had I wrote in book form.”"
What an impressively strong young lady. I truly hope that she is able to beat this cancer, and with the kind of attitude she has displayed so far, I believe that she will. Her book will be available soon and if you will click the link here, it will take you to a site where you can order one.
It is nice to see the football world rally around such a worthy cause as opposed to worrying about whether or not Tom Brady plays football with inflated balls. Leah and Devon, my thoughts and prayers are with you. We hope for nothing less than a complete and speedy recovery.
It is amazing how sometimes we can lose the reality of how fragile our lives really are and get caught up in issues like deflated footballs and what Super Bowl party we are going to attend. I hope that wherever you are and whatever you are doing you can pause and take a moment to send some prayers or warm and positive thoughts towards Leah ‘Strong’ and her family.
