After Charles Clay keeps going back and forth between the Bills and Dolphins on where he will play football for the 2015 season, Miami is done pursuing him.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly losing interest in tight end Charles Clay after the free agency period began and nothing has happened regarding a new contract. Clay is looking to make a tad more money than he has in years past, because of a breakout season in 2013.

But the rumors surrounding Clay and where he actually will end up are starting to weigh on the Dolphins.

It appears that as a result, they are done with him.

Earlier this month, Clay was supposedly all set to sign with the Dolphins. But as the Bills entered the picture, putting the price to acquire Clay at a high, things got complicated. So complicated in fact that the Bills are done trying to persuade the man who spent four seasons at the tight end spot for them to rejoin the team.

Clay had an excellent 2013 season, establishing himself as a premiere starting tight end in the NFL. He hauled in 69 passes that totaled 759 yards and six touchdowns. Despite being one of the main components of the Dolphins passing game, a lingering knee injury kept his production to a minimum last year. This made him a question mark as far as where he would end up next year, but it looks like the Bills will snag the four-year veteran in free agency.

So it’s time to find a new tight end for Miami in 2015. They have made plenty of moves this off season including acquiring Kenny Stills in a trade with the New Orleans Saints for Dannell Ellerbe. This move was critical for the Dolphins after the departure of Mike Wallace in a deal with the Minnesota Vikings that sent a 5th round pick to Miami in exchange for Wallace.

If they want to compete with the Patriots in what is arguably one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL, the Dolphins should probably grab a few more pieces this off-season. Unfortunately, one of those pieces is not going to be Charles Clay.
