Indy 500: Josef Newgarden has scary car wreck at practice
With the Indy 500 just a couple of weeks away, there was a major wreck in practice leading up to the race.
Even when there are minimal drivers on the track, driving an Indy car can be very dangerous. Josef Newgarden found out the hard way during Indy 500 practice as his Chevrolet slid and hit a wall in turn one.

In what was a very scary incident, Newgarden’s car slid across the track right into the wall. Even worse, his car went airborne and flipped with Newgarden still in the car. His Chevrolet, absolutely dismantled and pieces of his car can be seen flying in the air.
After the wreck, Newgarden slowly got out of his car and looked to be visibly shaken up. He was able to walk away and left in an ambulance. He was then released and cleared to drive again after checking in at the infield car center. Perhaps the scariest part of the whole ordeal was the way that his car kept rolling on its side the entire way down the track while Newgarden was still in it.
It speaks volumes about the safety measures in place that a driver can hit a wall at near 2o0 mph and slide down the track upside down and be able to walk away.
It is one of the most dangerous sports in the world, and fortunately for everyone, Newgarden will be able to get behind the wheel of a car again in his life.
