Australia throws shade at USWNT, says they’re not ‘that good’

The Australian team threw some serious shade at the United States national women’s team after losing in their World Cup opener.

The United States got a win over Australia in their first game of the 2015 Women’s World Cup. It unfortunately was not a very impressive win for the United States women, who looked weak along their defensive back line.

But even when they weren’t playing their best, they still managed to eek out the win.

Australia is still a bit bitter about the way the game ended, and they posted an article titled “Australia v USA: 4 things we learnt” on the team’s official website. In it they threw some serious shade at the Americans.

"1: The USA, well, they just aren’t that goodThe US certainly like to talk a good game. The reality is they play a fairly rudimentary, bog-standard 4-4-2, were short of ideas going forward and outmanoeuvred tactically. ‘Play it long and look for the head of Wambach’ seems the default game-plan for a team stuck in the past."

And even when bragging about themselves managed to find a way to take a few shots at the Americans.

"2: Australia has developed into a world-class teamHow many times did they play through the lines? Hold possession in dangerous areas? Play out from the back?Being able to do this for 90 minutes is the next level for them."

Talk about being sore losers.

That being said, there are several issues hindering this American team. Yes their defense is a weak point, and their offense might not have played as well as it could have. Remember Alex Morgan is on the bench as she is trying to come back from an injury, playing in just over 10 minutes of last night’s game and being subbed on when the game was in the books.

There might be some truth to the “stuck in the past” comment. The pay for play system in youth soccer has made it hard for youngsters of all ages to play.

That being said, Australia is in last place in Group D and America is in first.
