Women’s World Cup: Maren Mjelde with a beautiful freekick, game-tying goal (Video)

Norway’s Maren Mjelde scored a beautiful freekick to tie the game against Germany in the 2015 Women’s World Cup.

The Women’s World Cup is underway in Canada and we’ve already seen more than our fair share of spectacular goals. On Thursday, Norway’s Maren Mjelde scored a ridiculous freekick goal to tie the game against Germany, a team that is the top-ranked team in the world and coming off a 10-0 win over the Ivory Coast on Sunday.

Mjelde curls the ball over the wall and finds the corner of the goal where the keeper had no chance of reaching it. This is a world class shot, on the biggest stage in the sport, against the best team on the planet while trailing by a goal.

And Mjelde shows no fear and ties the game up.

While this goal is truly something spectacular, I don’t think it will be in contention for the goal of the tournament. That clearly belongs to Veronica Perez of Mexico, who scored just yards away from the spot where the corner kicks are taken, seriously.

Now we just have to see if Norway can pull out the win or the draw.
