Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic said he is open to playing in Major League Soccer one day.
On Wednesday night at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic led Paris Saint-Germain past Manchester United in an International Champions Cup competition. It was a packed house of soccer fans in the Windy City, who recently saw their local Major League Soccer team, the Chicago Fire, come close to landing Didier Drogba.
After the game, Ibrahimovic told FanSided that one day he would consider making the move to Major League Soccer one day.
“You never know, absolutely I’m open for it,” Ibrahimovic said. “At the moment I’m here, I’m enjoying it and I’m happy.”
Certainly a large contingent of Major League Soccer teams would clamor for Ibrahimovic’s services if he were to come to MLS. He is a huge star, full of confidence, who gifts sound bites and goals at will.
The American fans made an impression on Ibrahimovic, who scored the second goal of a win over Manchester United after a beautiful low cross into the box.
“They’re very fanatic for the game, they’re cheering a lot,” Ibrahimovic said of the Chicago crowd. “I think they enjoy the game, they want to see the big teams with the big players, I think they enjoy it a lot.”
Ibrahimovic also enjoyed the facilities at Soldier Field, a football stadium converted to a soccer field.
“The atmosphere fantastic, nice stadium to play football on and I enjoyed it,” Ibrahimovic told.
Ibrahimovic also said that the expectations of the fans, who rarely get to see a game live in the United States, didn’t bother him. In fact, he thrives on the opportunity to thrill the fans.
“When I play it is about winning and giving back to the people that come, that is part of my game,” Ibrahimovic said.
