The Atlanta Falcons are off to a good start in their 2015 season, beating the Philadelphia Eagles, 26-24, on Monday Night Football at the Georgia Dome. The game started out with the home team dominating, getting a 20-3 lead at halftime with the aid of two Julio Jones’ touchdowns and Sam Bradford throwing an ugly pick. In the first 30 minutes, the Eagles only had eight rushing yards on seven carries.

The second half watched Philadelphia storm back and actually take a 24-23 lead, but the Falcons rallied late in the fourth quarter with a Matt Bryant 47-yard field goal. Eagles kicker Cody Parkey had a chance to put his team back into the lead, but missed a 44-yard kick badly to the right. Philadelphia forced a three-and-out and got a final chance, but Bradford threw his second interception of the night to Ricardo Allen, sealing his fate.

Three Stars
1. Julio Jones
Jones was showing why the Falcons gave him a contraxt extension this offseason. Jones had 98 receiving yards by halftime and finished the night with nine catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Making his effort even more impressive was Jones dealing with $63 million corner Byron Maxwell, who was torched all night.
2. Jordan Matthews
Matthews needs to become the top receiver for the Eagles in 2015 following the free-agency departure of Jeremy Maclin, and the second-year man looked the part against Atlanta. Matthews caught 10 passes on 12 targets for 102 yards. Matthews has a nice combination of speed and size, making him a very tough cover.
3. Darren Sproles
Sproles was his typical multi-faceted self. Sproles was the leading rusher for the Eagles with 50 carries on five yards, while catching seven passes on nine targets for 76 yards. Sproles also had three punt returns for 25 yards, giving Kelly one of the best weapons in the NFL. How two other teams have let him go, nobody can ever know.
Odds
Philadelphia was favored by three points and did not cover the spread.
Next week
The Eagles will have their home opener agianst Dallas Cowboys while the Falcons travel to the Meadowlands to take on the New York Giants.
