Last week the NFL and fantasy football owners lost some key running backs to fairly significant injuries (see Bell, Le’Veon).  With those options out this week and a brutal bye week situation, everyone is being forced to scramble to find the right sleeper running backs.  To see my top five options scroll through the following slides.

More from Buffalo Bills

In this weekly Sunday morning post, I don’t focus on the big names at the top of the salary structure in daily leagues and players who are already universally owned in season-long leagues. Instead, I try to find  some lesser-known backs that are in a position to step up and produce this week.  Many of them are on waiver wires in season-long leagues, and they all are relatively affordable on both FanDuel and DraftKings. However you decide to get in the fantasy football game for week 9, these running back sleepers should be able to help.

My week 8 sleeper picks lost Khiry Robinson and Reggie Bush to injury but got decent performances from Darren McFadden and Duke Johnson.  This week, hopefully I can avoid the injury bug that often decimates running backs and we can all take advantage of these five running back sleepers.

This week, the running back pool is severely reduced with six teams on a bye week.  The Texans, Cardinals, Ravens, Lions, Chiefs, and Seahawks are all getting a week off, but that leave the options at running back even more limited than usual.  Piecing together a lineup in season-long leagues may be a little challenging due to bye weeks, and the daily league players will have to dig deep to find some good options.
