DraftKings Late MLB Picks For August 11

There are only four games in the main tournament tonight, but there are three pitchers that top $10,000 as opposed to one in six afternoon games. Who should we pay for tonight? Can we come out ahead by going cheap? Let’s take a look at the past stats to try and find an advantage.

More from DFS

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

Best Bets:

Corey Kluber ($11,000): The Angels are only hitting .197 against Kluber in 71 at bats with a homer, six runs, and 14 strikeouts. The strikeout number is a tad low, but the rest of the numbers are approaching elite, and this is a short slate, after all. Kluber should reward you nicely for spending the money on him.

Honorable Mention:

Danny Duffy ($12,400): The White Sox are hitting .251 off of Duffy in 183 at bats with six homers, but they have only scored 13 runs and struck out 45 times. The high strikeout number is nice, but he is giving up hits at an equal clip. Judging by past stats, Kluber is the clear favorite, and even if Duffy continues his hot streak, I doubt he outdoes Kluber by $1,400 worth. That said, Duffy has four straight quality starts, and has won seven straight decisions. It’s hard to ignore that trend.

Dark Horse:

Eduardo Rodriguez ($5,200): Rodriguez has really struggled at the major league level this year, but with Steven Wright hurting his shoulder pinch running for David Ortiz, the Sox don’t have many options. The Yankees are hitting a robust .275 against Rodriguez with four home runs in 91 at bats, but they have only scored seven runs and they have struck out 14 times. The strikeouts aren’t high, but Rodriguez has limited the damage thus far. With the way the Yankee offense has been, he may be worth a look if you are going cheap.

Jhoulys Chacin ($4,300): If you are really the gambling type, check out these numbers: The Indians are only 4-30(.133) against Chacin with seven strikeouts. Nice, right? Well, he has given up five runs. Judging by his 5.27 ERA, most wont be using him. If you really want to go against the grain, he could be worth a look.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Not a stacker? You may not be alone. Matt McGarvey takes his stance against it. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Believe it or not, the Cardinals have hit Jon Lester well. Matt Carpenter ($4,300) is 4-14(.286) with two walks, a double, a triple, and a RBI. Matt Holliday ($3,300) is 5-9 with a walk, a double, and three RBI. Yadier Molina ($3,000) is only 3-13(.231), but he has two walks, a double, and three RBI. Jhonny Peralta ($3,100) is 10-40 with five walks, a double, three homers, and six RBI against Lester. Stephen Piscotty ($3,800) is only 1-4, but he has two walks to go with his two run homer.

The past stats say it could be a high scoring game at Wrigley! Dexter Fowler ($4,800) is 6-17(.353) with three walks, a double, and three RBI against Carlos Martinez. Jason Heyward ($3,100) is 3-8 with a double and two RBI off of his former teammate. Miguel Montero ($2,900) is only 2-12(.167), but he has three walks, a double, and three RBI. Anthony Rizzo ($5,200) is 4-17(.235) with three walks, a double, two homers, and six RBI against Martinez. Addison Russell ($3,300) is 4-11(.364) with a RBI. Ben Zobrist ($4,400) is 2-5 with a walk and two RBI against Martinez.

His teammates have not done much against Michael Pineda, but Mookie Betts ($5,300) sure loves to hit off of him. Betts is 6-20(.300) with a walk, two doubles, two homers, and four RBI against Pineda. David Ortiz ($4,800) is only 5-22(.227) against Pineda, but he does have a walk, two doubles, a homer, and two RBI. Xander Bogaerts ($3,800) is 6-21(.286) with a walk, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Pineda. Jackie Bradley Jr. ($4,000) is 4-11 with three walks and three doubles.

Yes, the Royals are struggling, but you may want to stack them against Miguel Gonzalez. Lorenzo Cain ($3,200) is 3-9 with a solo homer. Jarrod Dyson ($3,600) is an incredible 8-10, but all of the hits are singles and he has no counting stats. Salvador Perez ($3,200) is 6-17(.353) with a homer and two RBI. Eric Hosmer ($3,700) is only 3-16(.188), but he has a homer and five RBI against Gonzalez.

Jacoby Ellsbury ($3,900) is 5-14(.357) with a walk, a double, and two solo homers against Eduardo Rodriguez. Didi Gregorius ($3,200) is also 5-14 with a double and a RBI. Alex Rodriguez ($2,800) should be in the lineup, and he is 5-13(.385) with two walks, a double, a homer, and three RBI against Eduardo. Brett Gardner ($4,600) is 3-10 with a walk, and a solo shot against Rodriguez.

Kole Calhoun ($2,900) is 3-10 with a homer and two RBI against Corey Kluber. The only other Angel to have any sort of success is C.J. Cron, and he is on the DL. What about Mike Trout, you ask? He is 1-11 with two walks, but he has driven in two runs.

Mike Napoli ($5,500) is 1-2 with a walk and a three run homer off of Jhoulys Chacin.

Jose Abreu ($3,000) is 9-24(.375) with three walks, a double, a homer, and two RBI against Danny Duffy. Dioner Navarro ($2,300) is 3-9 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Tyler Saladino, Melky Cabrera, and Todd Frazier have also taken Duffy deep, but they are a combined 7-36 against him.
