This week on Lucifer, Chloe starts a quest to find her father’s true killer with help from Dan and Lucifer, and Lucifer learns a lot about himself in the process.

Lucifer begins this week with a flashback. Chloe’s dad goes to the deli and chats with the owner, giving him tickets to Chloe’s new movie. He warns him about the nude scene, but he says that even with that scene he’s still proud of his “Little Monkey.” The owner looks up with wide eyes and sees a man with a gun behind the officer. The guy kills Chloe’s dad in cold blood before robbing the store.

Lucifer strolls into the station and tells Chloe that Dr. Martin cancelled his session. Chloe is upset because she found out that Joe Fields is being allowed out for prisoner leave. Fields is the man who killed her father, and she’s upset. Lucifer doesn’t understand, but Dan notices what’s wrong right away. When she leaves, Lucifer decides that he wants to be more like Dan, and he comes up with a plan to learn from him.

Chloe, meanwhile, is at the prison watching for Fields to be released. She follows the prisoner transport van and sees that it stops suddenly. Inside, everyone is dead, including Joe Fields. What could this mean?

Lucifer and Dan arrive at the crime scene and Dan still can’t believe that Lucifer is following him around. Lucifer wants Dan to teach him to be a “tool” like he is. Chloe takes them through the crime scene and says that Joe Fields was executed.

Lucifer has no idea that Joe Fields killed her father. He thinks she should be happy that he’s dead. Later in the station Dan says that Chloe shouldn’t take the case because she’s too close, so he offers to take it. Lucifer wants to help, and Chloe says she’d like them both to work on it.

Back home, Chloe asks Maze what job she’s interviewing for. Maze says she’s going to work at a preschool, which makes Trixie laugh. Trixie tells her to find something she loves to do, and to be herself. Maze leaves, and Trixie eats her sandwich.

Chloe explains that her father made them for her on Thursdays after acting class. Trixie sagely notes that Chloe never talks about her father. There’s a knock on the door and Chloe sends Trixie to do her homework. When she opens the door, a woman is standing there with a gun.

The woman says her father was a good man and didn’t deserve to be gunned down. She’s Tina Fields, and Chloe manages to get the gun away from her. Tina received a video from his lawyer in the event of her father’s death.

At a food stand, Dan and Lucifer wait for a perp to show up. Lucifer realizes that Dan dresses the way de does to blend in with the average Joes.

Chloe and Tina watch the tape and Chloe realizes that the tape was recorded three minutes before her father’s death, meaning that he didn’t kill Chloe’s father.

The perp admits that he killed Joe Fields. Dan sees through Rodney’s act and wants to know why he’s confessing to a crime he didn’t commit. Lucifer asks what he wants, and Rodney says it’s to take care of his family. Dan surmises that he did it for money. Lucifer and Dan manage to get the story out of him.

Maze knocks on Linda’s door because she needs a character reference. Linda keeps her door shut and she turns around to see Maze leaning on her desk. She sees that Linda knows everything. She thought the demon thing was a sexual metaphor. Maze wants to know if being a demon is that bad, and Linda tells her to leave.

Chloe arrives at the station with a deposit account number. Whoever killed Joe Fields had been giving him money for his family. Tina never touched the money, believing it to be stolen, and Dan said that Rodney had been doing the same thing.

We see a flashback of Chloe’s first day at work when she met Dan for the first time. He keeps an eye on her and realizes that she’s John Decker’s daughter. She comes out of her reverie when Dan and Lucifer come in and say the money is coming from a Russian syndicate.

Dan and Lucifer go into the bathhouse to find the leader, Boris. They’re dressed in towels, and they go inside. Lucifer says his name is Dan. (Note: This scene was very hard to focus on because Dan and Lucifer were in towels the whole time) Lucifer tells Boris that he wants to have Lucifer killed. Boris agrees.

Later, in the station, Chloe sneaks in and questions Boris. Boris eventually tells Chloe that the John Decker he remembers was poking his head where it didn’t belong. Chloe doesn’t understand—her father was a beat cop. He smirks. Perhaps there was more going on.

Lucifer and Dan arrive back at the station and Dan praises Lucifer’s work. Chloe rushes up and says that she thinks her father’s death was a hit.

Maze returns home in a maid costume. It was for topless maids, but she still has to clean. She asks Chloe how the investigation is coming along and Chloe admits that she knows one of his cases killed him but she doesn’t know which one. Maze wants to know what feels right.

Lucifer follows Dan and realizes that Dan spends his free time in improv lessons. In fact, he does improv using Lucifer for inspiration. Lucifer gets mad and interrupts. Afterwards, Lucifer and Dan talk about their lives. Lucifer realizes that Dan is more complicated than he realized. Dan asks Lucifer not to tell Chloe.

Lucifer arrives at Chloe’s house and Maze is upset that he ruined her friendship with Linda. Chloe tells Lucifer to help her with the case, and he asks why Joe Fields would smile at her as he left. Chloe realizes that the warden was behind her, so Fields could have been smiling at him. Perhaps the deal went south. She needs to get to the prison, and she tells Lucifer that she needs her partner with her. They leave and find Dan already at the prison. The warden has escaped.

Chloe feels like a failure for letting her father’s killer go free. Lucifer expresses his pride for her. She’s about to go into her apartment when she hears cries inside. Maze has the warden bound and gagged. She tracked him for her. Before she can call it in Lucifer and Maze encourage her to get the revenge she needs. He offers money to her but Chloe decides that the best punishment is to let him in with his inmates. She’s sure they’ll treat him very well.

Maze gets paid to be a bounty hunter for the LAPD and she rushes to Linda’s office to show her the check. She wants to celebrate with her friend, but Linda says nothing. Linda is very torn about not seeing Maze, and Maze is horribly upset about losing their friendship. Linda doesn’t see how they can still be friends, but Maze points out that they’re still the same people. Linda smiles and they go out.
