Hoop-Dreaming: DraftKings NBA GPP Plays for Tuesday 1-17-17
Thanks for clicking! I am going to be breaking down tonight’s DraftKings NBA action and discussing the various picks that are aimed to help win some money on DraftKings. The picks are mainly geared for GPP tournaments and will carry more risk but also offer more reward. After all, we are seeking to have one of our tickets be the winner amongst hundreds of thousands of other entries.
There is a 5 game NBA late slate tonight on DraftKings. The Denver Nuggets will be the only team playing on back to back nights and the Los Angeles Lakers (-1.5) will look to benefit from Denver’s travel and wear. The other four games carry some blowout potential which makes lineup building more difficult than usual.
Of course, there are always injuries which will open the door for some players to significantly outperform their salary. Make sure and check Fantasy CPR for other helpful NBA articles. Also, don’t forget to look for lineup changes periodically throughout the day and especially before tipoff. Let’s take a look at tonight’s games.
Point Guards and Shooting Guards
The Brooklyn Nets have played competitively this year at home despite their 8-32 record. If they are able to keep the game close, Bojan Bogdanovich ($4,900) is a threat to hit 6x his current salary. He has managed to hit that mark in 3 out of his last 6 games and is coming off a bad game.
Finally appearing in proper form, Tony Parker ($4,700) has been shooting the ball well and has hit 6x his current value in 5 of his last 8 outings. Parker has a nice matchup against Ricky Rubio ($5,900) who cooled Sunday off after averaging 46.3 fantasy points in the previous 3 games.
The blowout potential is high and so is his salary, but DeMar DeRozan ($8,500) has a great opportunity against the Brooklyn Nets guards. He has only hit 6x his currently salary 3 times in the last month but he’s capable of scoring 40 points any given night.
With the resurgence of Ricky Rubio, the production for Zach LaVine ($6,000) has dipped and so will his ownership levels. LaVine is also going against the Spurs tonight which will stray people away from drafting him. He is risky but has had games of 43.8, 55, and 42 within the last 5 weeks.
Small Forwards and Power Forwards
After averaging over 40 fantasy points during a 5 game stretch, Julius Randle ($7,200) has had 3 sub par performances in his last 4 outings. The whole Lakers squad is young and will experience wild swings like the one Randle is in. Another positive swing is inevitable though.
Despite on paper looking like a central part of the offense, LaMarcus Aldridge ($6,600) remains inconsistent while Kawhi Leonard ($8,800) has taken over. We can use this to our advantage since most of the public will gravitate towards Leonard. At a lower price and a similar upside, Aldridge looks good tonight.
Due for an eventual off-night, Harrison Barnes ($6,400) failed to score at least 30 fantasy points on Sunday for the first time in 7 games. This occurred while his teammate Dirk Nowitzki ($6,100) has averaged 35 fantasy points in his last three games. Both of these players are worth consideration with Barnes being a sneakier play.
An extremely risky play tonight is Trevor Booker ($5,400) who has hit 6x his value 4 times in the last couple weeks. He has also managed to put forth games of 17.5, 20.8, and 23.5 during that span. High risk and high reward with Booker tonight.
Centers – The Men in the Middle
Coming off a supbar game after an excellent streak is Karl Anthony-Towns ($9,300). He is averaging 5x his current salary on the year which means he has a low floor and a high ceiling. He will have more positive games than negative ones over the course of the season. A weak Spurs frontline offers a chance at immediate redemption.

Engaged in battle in the paint tonight will be Jonas Valanciunas ($6,200) and Brook Lopez ($6,300). They both have incredibly similar salaries and performance over the last few games. Lopez offers a higher upside but has been randomly rested in the past so carries some risk there. Valanciunas is more reliable but does not have quite the ceiling. With a utility spot, both can be rostered.
With the potential to make or break a lineup tonight, Pau Gasol ($5,700) has seen his price plummet for a player of his abilities. Predicting the Spurs rotation is a job for Vegas experts so tread carefully here.
