NBA FanDuel Top 5 Plays For February 4th
By Bruce Lamb
NBA FanDuel DFS Top 5 Plays of The Day for February 4th 2017
Last night was brutal! The news on Jimmy Butler came out of nowhere and of course it didn’t happen until after lock. I had Butler almost everywhere in NBA FanDuel and because of that I didn’t cash in any contest. Sometimes that’s just how it goes. When things like this happen it becomes very important to realize that you had no control over what happened.
It’s easy to lose your confidence and change your process to try to ‘make up’ for a bad night. This is exactly why you must remain disciplined on managing your bankroll and not try to spend more when you have been playing well. Playing DFS can and will humble you, but when you stick to your process and use good bankroll management you can move on from nights like last night, which is exactly what I’m going to do.
A quick review of last night obviously sees a big fat 0 from my GPP Spend Jimmy Butler. Aside from that Darren Collison scored 22.9 after a slow first half against the Suns. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 43.1 and didn’t reach anywhere close to value. Michael Turner was a dud scoring 22.3 as well. Fading Kyle Lowry worked with him scoring 34.5 FDP’s on his $9,600 price tag. That was the lone bright spot on a bad night.
Tonight we have another 10 games to choose from for the main slate on FanDuel. The highest total on the board so far is the Golden State Warriors at the Sacramento Kings at 226. Milwaukee at Phoenix has a 217.5 total and New Orleans at Washington has a 217 total. The rest of the games have a total at 210 or less with Cleveland at New York and Denver at San Antonio not having a total listed yet by Vegas. I’m rolling with my usual 70% of my bankroll in cash games and 30% in tournaments. Let’s take a look at my top plays of the day starting with my GPP Spend and Fade.
NBA FanDuel – Top Player To Spend and Fade In GPP’s
Hassan Whiteside $8,800
Whiteside is the 3rd most expensive center tonight so he isn’t exactly one of the highest priced players on the slate tonight but when you spend over 8K on someone you are looking for 40 FDP’s from him. He showed some life in his last game against the Hawks scoring 43.6 FDP’s behind 18 points and 18 rebounds. He is in an even better match-up tonight against the 76ers who have allowed some monster games to opposing centers. The total for this game is listed at 207.5 with the Heat favored by 8 points. The Heat come into this one riding a 9 game win streak and I think they make it to 10 tonight. I do have some concern of a blowout here but I’m willing to risk putting Whiteside in my lineups in hopes of another 40+ point performance.
Giannis Antetokounmpo $10,500
There are a lot of high-priced players tonight and I would love to be able to roster all of them but I can’t. The one I can argue fading is Giannis, despite the good match-up against the Suns. He had a great match-up against the Nuggets last night but was a big disappointment. He is the most expensive SG tonight but in order to fit some of the other higher priced players in my lineup he just doesn’t fit. I would much rather pay up for John Wall, Leborn James, Kevin Durant, Nikola Jokic, Anthony Davis…..well you get the picture. Giannis has 60 point upside, as do the players listed above, but he just hasn’t shown as high a floor as those guys lately so I’m willing to fade him and take a chance on someone else. Now let’s take a look at my Cash Game Lock and GPP Flier.
NBA FanDuel – Cash Game Lock and GPP Flier
Bradley Beal $7,000
I’m locking Beal in at SG in my cash games tonight. He has scored over 35 FDP’s in 4 of his past 5 games and gets New Orleans on his home court with a 217 total. Beal does most of his damage by scoring but does get a few rebounds and assists each game which gives him a nice floor we can work with in cash games tonight. I’m comfortable with is 7k price point which gives me some flexibility to spend up to the upper tier of players at different positions. I wouldn’t be opposed to using both Beal and Wall in my cash game lineup tonight and the Pelicans have struggled against both the PG and SG position lately. Beal should be a nice cash game player tonight.
Frank Kaminsky $4,500
I’m definitely going to have some exposure to Kaminsky tonight despite the extremely tough match-up against the Utah Jazz. The thing with Kaminsky is the Hornets just don’t have any other option at center and they will need all the big bodies they can get against the Jazz. Kaminsky will get the start at center again with Cody Zeller still nursing a quad injury and Roy Hibbert and Spencer Hawes having been traded, so I project him to get minutes into the 30’s no matter how the game flow is. He got the start in his last game against the Warriors and didn’t disappoint with 39.4 FDP’s. I am not expecting that kind of performance again tonight especially in this match-up, but I think he has a floor in the mid 20’s with upside into the 30’s. I am willing to take that risk and I hope him playing the Jazz will scare people away from him in GPP’s. He makes for a great salary saver tonight with a chance of going 8x.
NBA FanDuel – Top PayMaker
Kyrie Irving $8,600
Irving and the Cleveland Cavs play in Madison Square Garden tonight against the New York Knicks. He didn’t take on a much scoring as I thought he would when Love was out these past few games. Now that the big 3 are all back I think we see an active Kyrie who puts up a nice scoring game with plenty of assists.

I also think we see big games out of LeBron and Love as well, and thanks to their recent struggles and injuries the prices on Irving and Love aren’t as inflated as they have been in the past. James is over 11K, which high for him, but there are plenty of options you can use to make all 3 of them fit into your lineups tonight.
If I had to choose just one however, it would be Irving. I think he has a monster game tonight and will find his way onto many of my lineups.
This slate is intriguing to me to say the least. There are a lot of high-priced players I would love to be able to roster in all formats. The only one I can make a semi-strong argument against rostering is Giannis, but I wouldn’t be upset if he puts up 60 because his match-up is that good. On Sunday there is only 3 games so I won’t be doing a write-up. I will likely throw a lineup or two in a tournament but I will definitely be playing extremely light on Sunday. I hope you all have a great Saturday and a fun-filled Super Bowl Sunday. Good Luck Tonight!
Best of luck tonight in your NBA FanDuel contests and stay tuned to Fantasy CPR for all the late breaking lineup news and roster updates!
