Dwyane Wade defends Charles Oakley in Instagram post (Photo)

Dwayne Wade took to Instagram defending Charles Oakley after he was removed from Wednesday night’s New York Knicks game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Charles Oakley has another NBA star defending him after he was arrested during Wednesday night’s New York Knicks-Los Angeles Clippers game and charged with three counts of assault. On Thursday afternoon Dwayne Wade came to the Knicks legend’s defense on Instagram.

Wade’s message comes after LeBron James showed his support for Oakley on Wednesday shortly after Oakley was arrested. Unlike James, Wade penned a longer message that hit a bunch of points. For starters, he pointed out what Oakley did for the organization and how the Knicks would be different without his services.

Both parties of the situation have presented different stories. Additionally, the Knicks called Oakley’s point of view “pure fiction” in an updated statement on Thursday.

No matter how this plays out, it’s a shame a team would treat one of its legends this way. If Oakley is truly in the wrong, the Knicks still handled this situation poorly especially via social media. Likewise, James and Wade’s posts bring even more publicity to the situation. This makes the Knicks look even worse in this situation.

As a result, they should be quick to try to repair the perceptions about the situation. Instead, they appear to be content bashing Oakley and his side of the story instead of aiming to work on making amends. Other NBA and professional teams are probably using this situation as a public relations case study.

All in all, Wade is just the latest NBA star to speak out about the Oakley situation. It only hurts the Knicks further the longer this situation drags on via social media statements. This is just the latest issue the Knicks have dealt with on and off the court this season.
