According to Reddit, a possible new logo for the Minnesota Timberwolves has leaked.

Those in attendance for the Timberwolves game against the Thunder Tuesday night, will be treated a first look at the team’s new logo. Unless they have the internet of course. A marketing announcement for the new logo may have accidentally included the image before it was supposed to be released.

This will be Minnesota’s fourth logo in the squad’s 28-year history. Minnesota’s game against the Thunder marks Fan Appreciation Night. Fans will receive t-shirts displaying the new logo choice. On the other hand, Minnesota has not made the playoffs in 13 seasons and will finish below .500, so a new logo might be need to keep the excitement up.

Beginning in next season, all licensed Timberwolves merchandise will display the newly announced logo.

It appears as if Minnesota is moving away from the traditional green it has used over the past handful of seasons. The electric green stands out and will help the howling wolf standout. The howling wolf logo has been used as an alternate logo in the past. Next season, the T-Wolves look to switch this to the primary logo.

From here on, Minnesota will do without the forestry background that has graced the landscape of the logo over the past several years.

In addition, the Target Center is receiving a facelift during this offseason. Minnesota is not the only team experimenting with changes. Next season, Nike’s deal with the NBA takes effect. The league is moving on from its longtime partner Adidas and heading in a different direction.

The league has discussed stitching advertisers on the jerseys. It is unknown how subtle the patches on the apparel may be. Above all, the announcement of a new logo may be a distraction from the frustrating end to the season — the Wolves have not posted a winning record since 2004-05.
