DraftKings MLB Picks For May 9

All but one game (San Diego and Texas) are in the main DraftKings tournament today. In lieu of an all day contest, DraftKIngs is running an early only tournament, featuring that game and all of the 7pm eastern ones for four games total. That is the only way to use Mike Napoli today.

More from DFS

The money line was up to 121.1 last night, which is surprising considering the cancellation of the Coors game gutted a lot of lineups, including one of mine. My Yankees stack finished well into the money, so that made up for the one loss.

The winning lineup was back over 200 at 203.25 DraftKings points. Trevor Cahill and Alex Wood gave him a great foundation. He also capitalized on a Dodger stack, which was better than the Yankees stack. Who needs Coors!

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

DraftKings
May 4, 2017; Washington, DC, USA; Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer (31) throws a pitch to a Arizona Diamondbacks batter in the second inning during a game at Nationals Park. Mandatory Credit: Patrick McDermott-USA TODAY Sports

P: Max Scherzer ($11,800): Scherzer takes a bit of a hit going to an American League park where the DH is in play, but that just means more Orioles to strike out. The O’s are only hitting .224 against Scherzer with six homers and 11 runs with 51 strikeouts in 143 at bats. Baltimore’s offense is starting to wake up, but Scherzer is among the elites tonight. He will rack up the strikeouts, and has a strong chance at a win against Ubaldo Jimenez.

P: Hector Santiago ($6,800): Santiago is off to a really good start this year, and most pundits tell you that it wont last. That may be true, but he has improved against right handed hitters enough that this may not be a fluke. The White Sox are a righty heavy lineup, so we will find out today. Santiago has only allowed 17 hits in 96 at bats (.177) to the current White Sox roster with just one homer, four runs, and a whopping 28 strikeouts. I will go with Santiago being barely owned and watch him dominate the Sox again.

C: Chris Herrmann ($3,000): Herrmann is 2-6 with a double and a solo homer against Justin Verlander. Aside from Daniel Descalso, he is the only one that has been marginally successful against Verlander. It’s worth this low of a price to see if he can do it again.

1B: Ryon Healy ($3,600): Healy is 2-3 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored, and a RBI off of Alex Meyer already. Meyer has not done well in the majors this year, and that likely wont change tonight. It’s tough to stack A’s in such a massive ballpark, but it is warranted tonight.

2B: Robinson Cano ($4,300): I am taking Cano getting a big park upgrade against Jerad Eickhoff and the Phillies. Cano can hit in any park. I want to see what he can do in Philly.

3B: Miguel Sano ($4,300): Sano is 3-4 with two walks, a double, a homer, two runs scored, and a RBI off of Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey has been knocked around again this year. If you are looking for a stack that may be a bit under used, it is the Twins today.

SS: Jean Segura ($4,200): Segura is the only member of the Mariners to faced Jerad Eickhoff so far. He was 4-5 against Eickhoff as a member of the Diamondbacks with two walks, a steal, and a run scored. I will take that at the top of a pretty potent lineup getting a huge park upgrade.

OF: Jayson Werth ($4,200): Werth is only 2-9 against Ubaldo Jimenez in his career, but he does have two walks and a solo home run. Jimenez has a 6.58 ERA this year, and that was helped by three scoreless innings of relief last week. He is back in the rotation for now, so stack Nats and don’t look back!

OF: Carlos Beltran ($3,800): Beltran likes Bartolo Colon. He is 12-43(.279) with five walks, three doubles, four homers, six runs scored, and seven RBI against the 43 year old Colon. Beltran is off to a bit of a slow start, but we will see if he has anything left today. If he can still hit Colon, he is good to go!

OF: Gerardo Parra ($3,900): Parra’s numbers against John Lackey are actually a little better than Charlie Blackmon‘s, and he is $1,600 cheaper! There is a good chance that Arrieta starts tonight. If he does, I like the Parra play a little bit less. I may try and rework this part of the lineup if Arrieta does take the hill. If it’s Lackey, Parra is 7-16(.438) with a solo homer and three runs scored off of him.

DraftKings
Apr 29, 2017; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Matt Andriese (35) pitches to Toronto Blue Jays during the fifth inning at Rogers Centre. Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

P: Justin Verlander ($10,000): Verlander has held the current Diamondbacks to a .190 average in 42 at bats with only one run, two walks, and an impressive 18 strikeouts. He takes a bit of a park hit heading to Phoenix, but if he is striking out 40% of the batters he faces, we don’t really have to worry about that. He may not have a great shot at a win against Robbie Ray, but the Tigers have a lot of right handed power. Given a choice, Verlander is the much better option.

P: Matt Andriese ($7,900): The two best pitchers last night were priced lower than this point. Tonight, Andriese could be just as good of a bargain as Wood or Cahill. The current Royals are hitting just .186 against Andriese in 43 at bats with no extra base hits and only one run scored. Andriese has not given up more than three runs since his first start of the season. He wont against the anemic Royals either.

C: Gary Sanchez ($4,800): Tim Adleman looked good in his last start against Pittsburgh, but the gap between Pittsburgh and the Yankees offensively is huge right now. Sanchez had a nice game as part of my Yankees stack yesterday. I’m stacking again against a guy with a 4.22 ERA and one quality start in five tries.

1B: Mitch Moreland ($3,500): Moreland has only faced Wily Peralta three times, but he has a single and a solo homer in those three at bats. It’s no secret that Peralta struggles against lefties. He has also allowed 45 home runs in his 44 home starts. Moreland is one of those guys that can take him deep, and he provides significant salary relief.

2B: Jedd Gyorko ($3,600): Gyorko has never hit for a high average. The same is true of his career numbers against Dan Straily. Gyorko is just 2-8 against Straily in his career. However, both of those hits are solo home runs.

3B: Evan Longoria ($4,200): Longoria is 3-9 with a double, a homer, and two RBI in his career against likely Royals starter Chris Young. At least Young dodges Wilson Ramos, who has homered off of him twice. This could still be a good time to stack Rays.

SS: Didi Gregorius ($3,800): Gregorius has added a nice spark to the Yankee lineup since his return on April 28th. He has yet to hit a home run, but he isn’t a power hitter anyway. A Yankees stack has worked out for each of the last four games. I don’t really see Adleman stopping this lineup right now, so I’m going to the well again.

OF: Aaron Judge ($4,600): Judge was rested yesterday after the 18 inning affair in Wrigley. He hits tape measure shots. It will be interesting to see if he can hit one in the Ohio River or not. Hell, he might even hit one into Kentucky! Do they give extra points for that?

OF: Adam Jones ($4,000): Jones is an impressive 12-25(.480) off of Max Scherzer with three doubles, three homers, eight runs scored, and four RBI against him. The rest of the team has three homers and seven RBI in 117 at bats. The only other Oriole I may consider would be Chris Davis, but there are better options at first base.

OF: Aaron Hicks ($3,600): Hicks has been on a tear lately. Enough of a tear to remain in the lineup even with Jacoby Ellsbury back. The Yankees may rest different people today, so make sure to watch the lineups closely, but if Hicks starts, I’m riding him again!
