DraftKings Main MLB Picks For May 13
Nine of the 15 games are in the main DraftKings tournament tonight. There are no aces like there are in the afternoon, and all of the good stacks are in this tournament. How little should we use on pitching? Let’s take a look at some hidden pitching gems and some favorite stacks!

The money line was down to 107.2 DraftKings points, which is unheard of for a 15 game slate. All of my lineups missed. Two had at least one bad pitcher, and the one with solid pitching got goose eggs from my Mariners.
The winning lineup held pretty steady at 195.8. He gambled with Clayton Kershaw at Coors Field, and hit with with Joe Biagini against Seattle. But what took this down for him was 35 DraftKings points from 1.5% owned Leury Garcia.
These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

P: Tanner Roark ($9,100): Yes, the Nationals still have a team. I promise! Roark has been waiting on his start for over a week now since the team was rained out on back to back days. Roark will (allegedly) take the hill tonight against the Phillies, a team that he has held to a .230 average and just one homer in 126 at bats. They have managed to pull together some runs, but they have also struck out at a 23% rate. And Roark should be well rested by now. He hasn’t pitched since May 7th.
P: Taijuan Walker ($9,000): There is not much history here, but trust me, you don’t need it. The Pirates offense is struggling almost as much as their pitching staff is. Walker has a lot of strikeout potential, so even if he does give up a few runs, they will be erased by the strikeouts.
C: Jonathan Lucroy ($3,900): I have a feeling that many will be stacking against Nick Martinez, and with good reason. However, I like the other side of this stack as well. Sonny Gray is still struggling like he did last year. He has never been a big strikeout pitcher, and with that many balls going in play, bad things can happen. Lucroy has only faced Gray twice, but he came away with a RBI single.
1B: Yonder Alonso ($4,400): I’m not letting all of the Oakland stackers have all the fun! Alonso had a career high in home runs before the end of April! It’s safe to say that he has figured something out, and Nick Martinez still hasn’t figured out how to keep that round, white thing from flying into the cheap seats.
2B: Ian Kinsler ($4,000): The Tigers are hitting a collective .331 against Ricky Nolasco in a staggering 160 at bats! This is not going to be a good night for the Angels. Matt Shoemaker kept the Tigers under wraps last night. They get their revenge here, starting with Kinsler. He is 9-30 with three doubles, three runs scored, and five RBI against Ricky Nolasco.
3B: Joey Gallo ($4,500): Gallo is punishing right handers. He has also picked up three hits in nine tries against Gray with a double, two runs scored, and a solo homer. Don’t be surprised if Gallo goes deep yet again.
SS: Jose Iglesias ($2,600): Iglesias is a great punt play since he is 5-9 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, and a RBI off Nolasco. Detroit should score at least a half dozen tonight. I would bet Iglesias is involved in at least one of those.
OF: Justin Upton ($4,100): Upton is 11-25(.440) with two walks, a double, two homers, five runs scored, and eight RBI against Nolasco already. Poor Ricky must feel like Upton is stalking him. Nolasco was a Marlin when Upton went to Atlanta. Then he goes to Detroit and Nolasco winds up in Minnesota. Nolasco can’t even hide on the left coast. Upton found him again!
OF: Marcell Ozuna ($4,000): I thought about adding to my Tigers stack with J.D. Martinez, but he is still knocking the rust off. Ozuna is a much safer option. He has destroyed Julio Teheran in his career, going 15-36(.417) with a double, three homers, five runs scored, and nine RBI. It’s not a fluke with this much of a track record!
OF: Shin-soo Choo ($4,200): Choo completes my Rangers mini stack. He is 8-21(.381) with two walks, two doubles, a homer, two runs scored, and two RBI in his career against Sonny Gray. Let’s see if my contrarian stack works out!

P: Nate Karns ($7,900): Danny Duffy pitched well against Baltimore last night. Karns isn’t the same caliber of pitcher, but he has held the O’s to a .210 average in 62 at bats with 13 strikeouts. He has surrendered three long balls, but Kauffman Stadium should help hold a few of those in. Karns has ramped up his strikeouts this year, so I feel a lot more comfortable taking a chance with him now.

P: Trevor Cahill ($9,300): Cahill continues to mow down hitters at an alarming rate, and the White Sox can strike out with the best (or is it worst?) of them. Cahilll has started using his curve as a strikeout pitch with tremendous results. He is striking out 30% of the batters he faces! Can he do that against Chicago tonight?
C: Salvador Perez ($3,600): Chris Tillman has done pretty well against the Royals in his career with the exceptions being Perez and Mike Moustakas. Perez is 5-14 with a homer, two runs scored, and four RBI in his career against TIllman. He is still knocking balls out of the park, so I will throw a dart with Salvie.
1B: Eric Thames ($4,800): Miller Park isn’t a haven for lefties, but Thames doesn’t seem to care. He has slugged six homers at home in just 63 at bats! Robert Gsellman has yet to find whatever made him good down the stretch last year. If he struggles again, Thames will take him out.
2B: Brandon Drury ($3,800): The Pirates are forced to turn to Trevor Williams again with Jameson Taillon still out. That means I am forced to stack Diamondbacks like I should have last night. The snakes racked up 11 runs last night. Drury finished a triple short of the cycle. Expect another strong night from him.
3B: Derek Dietrich ($3,000): Dietrich could be the best bargain of the night tonight. He is 5-17(.294) with three walks, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI against Julio Teheran already. Teheran continues to struggle against lefties, so Deitrich is well worth this bargain price!
SS: Chris Owings ($4,100): Owings was held to one hit last night, which is quite an achievement for a team that picked up 16 of them. However, he is hitting .310 this year, so the odds are against him going only 1-4 again! It should be more like 2-6!
OF: A.J. Pollock ($4,700): Pollock is sitting atop a lineup that will score a lot of runs. He is also the Diamondbacks’ best stolen base threat, and Francisco Cervelli is below average in throwing out runners. Pollock is in line for another good night!
OF: Michael Conforto ($4,600): Miller Park does temper left handed power a bit, but Conforto is hitting .351 with seven homers against right handed pitchers already this year. Zach Davies is a very hittable right hander. You see where this is going.
OF: David Peralta ($4,200): Another righty on the hill means that Peralta is a chalk play again. Peralta destroys right handers. He picked up three hits last night against Tyler Glasnow. What will he do for an encore performance?
